« Congressional Earmarks | Main | "ADL Genocide Denial A Real Turkey" »

August 08, 2007

One only need look to the Iran conference convened recently by Holocaust deniars to see that DENIAL is truly the final stage of Genocide. What is happening to the Armenians will indeed happen to the Jews. Wait and see. The ADL and all other Jewish organizations SHOULD be at the forefront of efforts to recognize past genocides. The cycle will only end if the people of world take a loud and strong stand against all genocides, whether or not they happened 92 years ago. If the perpetrators are not punished, what's to stop this from happening again?

As a Jew, I have read a great deal about the treatment of Armenians by the Turks from the 1890s throught WWI.

This history cannot be treated by the ADL as a political issue, but a moral one. Not only must they acknowledge the genocide, they should be in the forefront of educating the world about it.

The Israel-Turkey relationship will remain strong, notwithstanding the ADL's position.

Richard Bedrosian, Ph.D.

As a descendent of victims of the Armenian Genocide, I join with others in expressing anguish over the stance of ADL. For the past 92 years, the truth has been compromised for the sake of political expediency: We cannot rest until that ends.

These concerns notwithstanding, I am heartened by the responses from individual members of the Jewish Community, who truly understand the ramifications of genocide denial, not only for Armenians but for all of humanity. Beginning with Henry Morgenthau, the American Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire during the Genocide, our Jewish brothers and sisters have always been among our strongest advocates. I have no doubt that in the end, the inherent decency, intellectual honesty, and high moral standards of the Jewish Community will prevail on this issue.
